Nourishing Botanical Skin Oil

Create a richly nourishing botanical oil for face and body with a blend of jojoba, tamanu, rosehip seed, and argan oils. This beginner-friendly formulation combines four distinctive plant oils with Vitamin E and a softly aromatic blend of Lavender, Carrot Seed, and Ylang Ylang #3 essential oils.

The result is a concentrated, water-free skin oil designed to leave skin feeling soft, conditioned, and replenished. Use a few drops as the final step in your facial ritual or massage a small amount onto the body wherever skin could use extra botanical nourishment.

How to Use

For the face: After cleansing, apply 2–3 drops to slightly damp skin. Gently press or massage the oil over the face and neck, avoiding the immediate eye area. Because this is a concentrated oil, begin with a small amount and add more only if your skin needs it.

For the body: Massage a small amount onto clean, slightly damp skin, concentrating on areas that tend to feel dry or in need of additional conditioning.

This oil can be used on its own or as the final oil-based step in a botanical skincare ritual.

Why These Botanicals?

Jojoba Oil Creates the foundation of the formulation. Its lightweight, silky skin feel makes it especially versatile for both facial and body applications.
Tamanu Oil A distinctive botanical oil with a rich texture and naturally deep color. Here it adds substance and richness without becoming the dominant carrier.
Rosehip Seed Oil Contributes a lightweight botanical character and is a popular addition to facial oil formulations designed for dry and mature-feeling skin.
Argan Oil Adds a smooth, conditioning quality and helps round out the richer tamanu and rosehip oils.
Vitamin E Provides antioxidant support for the oil-based formulation while contributing additional skin-conditioning properties.
Lavender Essential Oil Provides the dominant aromatic note with its familiar soft floral-herbal character.
Carrot Seed Essential Oil Introduces an earthy, dry, herbaceous note that gives the blend its distinctly botanical character.
Ylang Ylang #3 Is used sparingly to soften the aromatic profile with a rich floral note without overwhelming the finished blend.

Formulator’s Tip

Tamanu has a naturally distinctive color and aroma. If you are new to tamanu oil, don't expect this formulation to smell like a conventional fragranced facial oil. Its botanical character is part of the finished formulation.

Essential-oil drop sizes can vary according to the oil, bottle, and dropper. Drop-based DIY recipes therefore provide an approximate rather than laboratory-exact dilution. For greater formulation precision, ingredients should be measured by weight.

Prefer an Unscented Facial Oil?

You can also prepare the botanical carrier-oil portion of this recipe without the Lavender, Carrot Seed, and Ylang Ylang #3 essential oils. This creates an unscented version for those who prefer essential-oil-free facial care.

Storage

Store tightly closed in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Avoid introducing water into the bottle. Because this is a small-batch DIY formulation made with botanical oils, prepare only an amount you expect to use while the oils remain fresh.

Discard the formulation if you notice a significant change in its aroma, appearance, or quality.

Safety & Use Notes

  • For external adult use only.
  • Patch test before broader facial or body application.
  • Avoid direct contact with the eyes and mucous membranes.

  • Discontinue use if irritation or sensitivity develops.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • If pregnant, nursing, taking medication, managing a medical condition, or under professional medical care, consult an appropriately qualified healthcare or aromatherapy professional before using essential oils.
