THE FORMULA

A Simple Foaming Hand-Wash Ritual

Foaming hand soap doesn't need an elaborate ingredient list. Pure Intox Castile Soap provides the cleansing base, while Vegetable Glycerin adds a humectant component to the formula.

Because this recipe contains added water, it is designed as a small-batch DIY project rather than a long-term shelf-stable cosmetic formulation. Make one bottle at a time using clean, sanitized equipment and distilled water.

Why distilled water? Distilled water is preferred over ordinary tap or filtered water for this DIY because it reduces the minerals and other impurities introduced into the formulation. It does not, however, preserve a water-based product.

50 G TEST BATCH

What You'll Need

Ingredient Percentage 50 g Batch
Distilled Water 73.5% 36.75 g
Castile Soap 25% 12.50 g
Vegetable Glycerin 1% 0.50 g
Essential Oil Blend 0.5% 0.25 g
Total 100% 50 g

You'll also need a small digital scale, mixing cup, stirring utensil and one 50 mL Clear PET Bottle with White Foamer Pump .

Foamer tip: The bottle has a nominal 50 mL capacity. Don't force the bottle completely full. Leave enough room for the foaming pump assembly and remove a small amount of product if necessary before installing the pump.

FEATURED AROMA

Bright Citrus Botanical

Mandarin · Geranium · Coriander Seed

Juicy citrus opens the aroma, Geranium brings a soft botanical-floral character, and Coriander Seed adds a subtly warm, aromatic finish.

Essential oil blend ratio: 45% Mandarin · 30% Geranium · 25% Coriander Seed

Shop: Mandarin Essential Oil , Geranium Essential Oil and Coriander Seed Essential Oil .

For formulation accuracy, prepare the essential-oil portion by weight whenever your scale can reliably measure the amount. Drop size varies according to the oil, viscosity and dropper, so drops are inherently less precise than weight.

Prefer a slightly different citrus character? Organic Tangerine can be explored in place of Mandarin.

Citrus Swap

Want to experiment? Try Organic Tangerine in place of Mandarin for a different sweet citrus profile.

Keep the total essential-oil concentration at 0.5% rather than adding extra essential oil when making substitutions.

STEP BY STEP

How to Make Your Foaming Hand Soap

  1. Clean your workspace. Wash and sanitize your bottle, mixing tools and work surface before beginning. Allow equipment to dry appropriately.
  2. Weigh the distilled water. Add 36.75 g distilled water to a clean mixing vessel.
  3. Add the vegetable glycerin. Weigh 0.50 g Vegetable Glycerin and stir gently.
  4. Add your chosen essential-oil blend. Weigh 0.25 g total essential oil according to one of the aroma profiles above.
  5. Add the Castile soap. Slowly add 12.50 g Castile Soap .
  6. Stir gently. Mix slowly to minimize unnecessary foam. Avoid vigorous whisking or shaking.
  7. Fill the bottle. Transfer the mixture into your Clear PET Bottle with White Foamer Pump , leaving adequate room for the pump mechanism.
  8. Install the pump and label. Add the recipe name and preparation date so you know when the small batch was made.

FORMULATION NOTE

Why This Is a Small-Batch DIY

Adding water to an existing liquid soap changes the original product. You should not assume that the preservation or microbial stability of the undiluted soap remains adequate after dilution.

That's why this Pure Intox recipe is intentionally presented as a small-batch educational DIY rather than assigning it a commercial-style shelf life.

Do not continually "top off" the bottle. Finish or discard the old batch, thoroughly clean the bottle and pump, and prepare a fresh batch. Discard the product if you notice an unusual change in odor, color, clarity, consistency or appearance.

USE & SAFETY

A Few Important Notes

  • For external, rinse-off use on the hands only.
  • Avoid contact with the eyes and other sensitive areas.
  • Do not ingest.
  • Keep essential oils and the finished DIY out of reach of children and pets.
  • Stop use if irritation or sensitivity develops.
  • Use clean equipment and distilled water when preparing each batch.
  • Do not assume that a diluted commercial soap retains its original shelf life.
  • Essential oils are concentrated botanical materials; more is not necessarily better.
