Whipped Shea + Jojoba Body Butter

Create a rich, velvety body butter with just a few botanical ingredients. Shea Butter provides the creamy foundation, Jojoba Oil softens the texture, and Lavender Essential Oil adds a gentle floral-herbal aroma for a simple, comforting body-care ritual.

This beginner-friendly formula is completely water-free and requires no emulsifier or preservative. Whipping the finished blend creates a lighter texture that melts easily into dry-feeling skin.

Directions

  1. Weigh the Shea Butter and Jojoba Oil into a clean, heat-safe bowl.
  2. Gently melt the Shea Butter using a double boiler or water bath over low heat.
  3. Once the Shea Butter is just melted, remove the bowl from heat and stir in the Jojoba Oil until fully combined.
  4. Allow the mixture to cool until it begins to thicken around the edges but is still soft enough to whip.
  5. Add the Lavender Essential Oil.
  6. If using arrowroot powder, sift in 1 teaspoon and mix thoroughly. Add the second teaspoon only if you prefer a drier finish.
  7. Whip the mixture with a hand mixer for several minutes until light and fluffy.
  8. If the butter becomes too soft while whipping, chill it briefly, then whip again.
  9. Spoon the finished body butter into a clean, completely dry jar.
  10. Label with the recipe name and date prepared.

How to Use

Scoop out a small amount and warm it between your palms. Massage onto clean skin, focusing on areas that tend to feel dry such as elbows, knees, hands, feet, and legs.

For best results, apply after bathing while the skin is still slightly damp.

A little goes a long way. Begin with a small amount and add more only as needed.

Why These Ingredients?

Shea Butter Creates the rich, creamy structure of the formulation and gives the finished butter its protective, cushiony feel.
Jojoba Oil Softens the Shea Butter and improves spreadability while helping the finished formula melt smoothly into the skin.
Lavender Essential Oil Adds a familiar floral-herbal aroma that works especially well in evening and post-bath body rituals.
Arrowroot Powder Is optional but can help reduce the perception of greasiness and create a more powdery finish.

Aroma Profile

Soft floral · herbal · comforting · classic lavender

Formulator’s Tip

Shea Butter can develop a grainy texture if it melts and cools too slowly. For a smoother finished butter, cool the melted mixture relatively quickly and avoid leaving it in a warm environment for an extended period.

If your finished butter softens during hot weather, store it in a cooler location. Because the recipe does not contain water, texture changes from heat do not automatically mean the product has spoiled.

Prefer It Unscented?

Simply omit the Lavender Essential Oil for an unscented version. The Shea Butter and Jojoba Oil can be used on their own without changing the basic preparation method.

Storage

Transfer the whipped body butter into a clean, dry 8 oz wide-mouth jar .

Avoid introducing water into the container. Use clean, dry hands or a cosmetic spatula when scooping from the jar.

Discard if you notice a significant change in aroma, appearance, or quality.
