Cocoa Butter

INCI: Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter

Rich botanical emollience for lasting moisture, softness, and skin-barrier support.

What Is Cocoa Butter?

Cocoa Butter is a naturally rich botanical butter obtained from the beans of the cacao tree, Theobroma cacao. Best known for its smooth, solid texture and characteristic fatty-acid profile, it has a long history of use in body-care formulations designed to nourish and condition dry skin.

Unlike lightweight liquid oils, Cocoa Butter remains solid at typical room temperatures and melts as it warms against the skin. This gives it a substantial, cushioning feel that is especially well suited to body butters, balms, and other intensive moisture-focused formulations.

Benefits

Cocoa Butter functions as a rich emollient, helping soften rough, dry-feeling skin while smoothing the skin's surface and supporting the natural moisture barrier.

Its substantial lipid content also helps reduce moisture loss, leaving the skin feeling softer, more supple, and comfortably conditioned long after application.

Fatty Acid Profile

Cocoa Butter contains a distinctive balance of fatty acids, particularly stearic, oleic, and palmitic acids. This composition contributes to both its firm structure and its rich, emollient skin feel.

Stearic and palmitic acids help give Cocoa Butter its characteristic solidity, while oleic acid contributes softness and spreadability as the butter melts against the skin.

Cocoa Butter + Moisture Retention

Effective body moisturization involves both replenishing the skin with conditioning lipids and helping limit excessive water loss from its surface.

Cocoa Butter creates a rich emollient layer that helps support this moisture-retention process. This makes it particularly useful for areas prone to dryness and rough texture, including hands, elbows, knees, legs, heels, and feet.

Cocoa Butter + Shea Butter

Cocoa Butter and Shea Butter provide complementary characteristics in botanical body care. Cocoa Butter contributes firmness, richness, and lasting emollience, while Shea Butter provides a creamy, conditioning texture with excellent spreadability.

Combining botanical butters with different fatty-acid profiles allows a formulation to provide substantial nourishment while maintaining a smooth, refined application experience.

Why We Use Cocoa Butter

At Pure Intox, Cocoa Butter is incorporated into Whipped Botanical Body Butter as part of a concentrated blend of botanical butters and oils designed for intensive body moisturization.

It works alongside Shea Butter and complementary botanical emollients to provide the richness, structure, and lasting conditioning expected from a whipped body butter while melting comfortably into the skin during application.

Sourcing & Quality

Cocoa Butter is obtained from the beans of Theobroma cacao and selected for cosmetic purity, consistency, and performance. Its characteristic fatty-acid composition and melting properties make it particularly valuable in rich anhydrous body-care formulations.

Appropriate processing, formulation, and storage help preserve the butter's quality and maintain the texture and sensory characteristics desired in the finished product.
